You
simply can’t visit Rome without taking
in some of the world famous Rome attractions,
steeped in history, and beautifully preserved
for the modern tourist. You’ll find you
can trace the steps of the Ceasar’s, and
bridge thousands of years of history – just
in a weekend!
Most of Rome’s attractions are situated within the old city walls, and
you can easily plan a route that takes in several venues in a day, without
exhausting yourself, and making time to stop off for a well earned meal, or
a cooling drink. In fact, we’ll recommend the best ways to do just
that.

The famous Coloseum is probably one
of the most photographed of all the ancient Rome attractions, and
is a MUST for your special trip to the Eternal
City.
Open 9:00am to sunset daily.

The inner city and the Rome attractions are divided by six central areas.
Il Centro lies close to the River Tiber, and is densly packed with piazzas
and historic buildings. To the North lies the Tridente area, where many
of the attractions are laid out in parkland. The Vatican occupies the other
bank of The Tiber from these two, reached by a number of bridges across
the river, notably at Castel S Angelo.
South of The Vatican lies Trestevere, populated with grand Villas and
greenery, and back over the river from here you'll find The Aventine, where
many of the most ancient Rome attractions are found. Esquilino completes
the inner areas, and hosts the main rail "Termini" and many of
the budget priced hotels.
One of our personal favourites of all the Rome attractions
is the
Spanish Steps, off the Piazza di Spagna.
Visit in spring to see the magnificent azaleas in full bloom, and try to
get there in the early evening, arriving
in front of the Trinita dei Monti church, for the best view from the top
of the steps - and the “buzz” of locals and tourists mixing
together. It’s a great area for shopping and eating too, with Bulgari
and the famous Babington’s Tea Rooms nearby. Also try a visit to
the Piazza Navona to get a great impression
of roman life.
Other Rome attractions that are “a must” include the Trevi
Fountain, which HAS to be seen at sunset, The
Colloseum which may be the
most photographed of all the historic sites, and the beautiful Sistine
Chapel within The Vatican. You can
wander for hours within the historic Roman Forum, and then there’s
also the stunning Villa Borghese. St.
Peter’s
Basilica and The Pantheon are flocked with tourists but should certainly
be on your itinery.
