Roman life, and Roman
culture, is an exciting
mixture of experiences that will pull you back
to the City time and again. The people of this
great metropolis are passionate, expressive
and articulate, like all Italians, and are
superbly hospitable hosts to the thousands
of tourists and visitors they entertain every
year.
Italian fashion is the envy of much of the
western world, and you will see the full
range of styles
on show, whatever the weather and time of
year.
Shopping in
Rome is a delight, if your
wallet
can stand up to the punishment – but
how could you deny your special partner the
opportunity
to browse along some of the most stylish
piazzas to be found in Roman life! The major
designer outlets are
clustered around The Spanish
Steps area.
Rome’s restaurants offer everything
you’d expect, and eating out is both
a joy and an entertainment.
Imagine the long
summer evenings, people watching as Roman
life passes by, relaxing over a bottle of wine
and the
finest food. Good restaurants can be found
throughout the City, with prices across
the full range.
The busiest times tend to be around
1 – 1:30pm at lunchtimes – 9 – 9:30pm
for dinner, but you’ll never have to
look far for a table. Bars and Cafes are open
all day, with alcoholic drinks available throughout.
Beware if you visit in August, the quietest
month in the City, as you may find some restaurants
closed – with their owners on annual
leave.
Roman life is a mixture of the classical
and modern. Open air Opera, Cinema and
Music are found from June to September, with
stunning
settings and performances that will live
on in the memory long after you return home.
Booking
in advance is rare in roman life, and you
will probably have to visit the box office in
person
to secure your tickets. Many tickets are
only available on the day of performance, with
the
notable exception of the main opera house,
The Teatro dell’ Opera, which sells
out for months in advance.
Roman art is some of the best catalogued and
preserved in the world, the Sistine
Chapel being an obvious highlight, and there is much
work from the cities Renaissance period that
can be still seen in its original setting today.
Roman culture and Roman religion have also
protected a rich heritage of art that can
be freely seen by the public.
So, Roman life is a magical cocktail unlike
any other city we have seen. Perhaps its this
very thing that draws us back every time!
