Direct flights to Rome are available from most
parts of the world, either by your own national
carrier or Alitalia, Italy’s favourite.
As an easy alternative, there are connecting
flights from most other European cities, including
major hubs in London and Frankfurt that are within
two hours flying time.
Cheap
flights to Rome are available from all the
major booking agencies, both online and
offline, and you should have no problems
finding your
ideal price and timings.
Rome is served by two well located and equipped
Airports on its outskirts, both with excellent
links into the heart of the City. Fiumicino Airport
is situated about 30 kilometres south west of
the centre.
Expanded and modernised substantially since
the 1990s, Fiumicino (sometimes called Leonardo
da Vinci) handles most of the scheduled flights
and has a fast rail link into the Stazioni Termini,
taking about 30 minutes.
All the major car hire
agencies have a presence, and local taxi services
are available – but expensive. Our tip,
if travelling by road, is to pre-book airport
transfers when you make your arrangements from
home.
Ciampino Airport is the smaller rival to Fiumicino,
sited some 15 kilometres south east of the City,
and handles many of the charter flights into
Rome.
Again, all the major car hire companies
are here and there is a reliable bus service
(The Cotral) that takes you into the Anagnina
Metro Station. If you do decide to take a Taxi,
only use the official cabs to avoid unecessary
expense.
So, before you pay your airfare to Rome, make
sure you plan your transfer service with the
above in mind, and get your relaxing break off
to a flying start!
